An Open Loop: Pop Tab–Inspired Jewelry and the Infinite Nature of Healing
The pop tab is a small detail most of us don’t think twice about. It’s the part that opens something sealed—the moment where pressure releases and access begins. That simple action became the inspiration behind my jewelry line.
While these pieces aren’t made from actual pop tabs, they are intentionally designed to echo their form. I was drawn to the shape not for what it’s made of, but for what it represents: opening, connection, and the quiet strength found in small movements forward.
Over time, I realized that same shape also resembles an eight—or when turned sideways, the infinity symbol. And that’s where the meaning deepened.
Healing Is Not Linear
Mental health is often talked about as a destination: something to “fix,” “overcome,” or “get past.” But for many of us, healing doesn’t move in a straight line. It loops. It pauses. It revisits familiar places. Progress and setbacks exist side by side.
The infinity shape reflects that truth. There is no clear beginning or end—just continuity. Some days feel lighter, others heavier, but both belong to the same ongoing journey. Seeing that loop is a reminder that returning to a hard place doesn’t mean you’ve failed. It means you’re still moving.
The number eight itself carries a sense of resilience. It folds back into itself, suggesting balance and endurance rather than perfection. You don’t have to move forward in a straight line to be moving forward at all.
The Meaning of Opening
The pop tab form adds another layer. A pop tab doesn’t force anything open—it pulls, gently but intentionally. It’s a small action that creates access.
In the context of mental health, opening can mean many things:
- Opening up to someone you trust
- Opening space for rest
- Opening yourself to asking for help
- Opening the possibility that things can change
These openings are rarely dramatic. Often, they’re quiet and personal. But they matter.
The combination of the pop-tab inspiration and the infinity-like shape reflects an idea I keep returning to: opening yourself isn’t a one-time act. It’s something we practice again and again.
Jewelry as a Visual Anchor
Jewelry is often chosen for how it looks, but it can also be chosen for how it feels. A familiar shape can become a visual or tactile anchor—something you notice during the day that gently pulls you back into the present moment.
The looping form of these pieces can be traced with a finger. It can be glanced at during a stressful moment. It can serve as a reminder that emotions rise and fall, that no feeling is permanent, and that you’ve moved through hard moments before.
This jewelry isn’t meant to treat or fix mental health struggles. Instead, it’s meant to hold meaning—whatever meaning the wearer chooses to give it. For some, it may symbolize resilience. For others, continuity. For others, simply the permission to keep going.
Designed With Intention, Worn With Meaning
Every piece in this line is designed with intention, but it’s completed by the person who wears it. Meaning isn’t assigned—it’s discovered.
That shared process matters. When something is created thoughtfully and worn purposefully, it becomes more than an accessory. It becomes a reminder. A quiet companion. A symbol you carry with you.
Mental health is deeply personal, and so is the way we support it. Sometimes support looks like therapy or medication. Sometimes it looks like routine, creativity, rest, or connection. And sometimes, it looks like a small object that reminds you of your own strength.
A Small Symbol for an Infinite Journey
The pop-tab-inspired, infinity-like shape at the heart of this jewelry line represents something simple but powerful: healing continues. There is no finish line you have to cross to be “done.” There is only movement, reflection, and the choice to keep opening yourself—again and again.
If this jewelry becomes part of your story, my hope is that it serves as a gentle reminder:
You are allowed to move at your own pace.
You are allowed to loop back.
And you are allowed to keep going.
Healing is not linear—and neither are we.
